This is just a general check without using equipment.
Most residential leaks do not require equipment detection.
Because equipment testing is not cheap, only use it if really need it.

What could cause the cost to be more than $1.5k?

It depends on how far outside the specific hacking (wall) range;
Anyway, according to the inspection,
this possibility (more than $1.5k) may be said to be very small.

Ok thanks! When you used the thermal scanner could you see the leak area?
The thing is, on what basis is it $1500 or $2000? And at which point of time will we know?
I’m sure your guys will do a good job, but I have to budget the costs, and I would like to avoid the possibility of hacking halfway and finding out it will be very expensive to fix and still be stuck with a leaking problem.
It would be better if we know the actual costs we need to pay.

We can only see the location of the hot water pipe,
can't see the signs of leakage clearly
(because the water temperature is not enough).
But even so, because the water leakage outside the wall is too obvious,
so we can determine where to repair.
We confident and try our best to keep the repair cost within $1.5k to $2k,
includes tile work.
